The preservation of erectile function is a significant need for the sexually active man after prostate cancer and contributes significantly to quality of life and joy of living. Studies (1-3) show that the early use of a vacuum pump for the penis leads to a complete erection in 80% of patients. Additionally, better healing outcomes and shorter incontinence periods are observed.

The penis is inserted into the open end of the cylinder. Using lever force, a vacuum is created in the cylinder. After 20-25 pumping movements, this should be noticeable. With the help of the vacuum, blood flows into the erectile tissue (Corpus Cavernosum) and into the glans. An artificially induced erection occurs. This must be maintained for several minutes. The penis remains in the cylinder during this time. For rehabilitation, erectile tissue training should be performed several times daily over several months to improve arterial blood supply.
